About Us
Who we are
The International Society for Forgery Studies is a scholarly network that promotes and facilitates research into forgery in its many forms — from forged texts, documents, and objects to invented histories and fabricated news — and connects scholars working across different disciplines, periods, and geographical regions.
Remco Breuker and Jacqueline Hylkema are establishing the society in Leiden. University funding and a KIEM grant support its first year, when membership will be free.

The member directory is a preview. Most profiles are fictional examples, and the research categories are provisional. When membership opens, a profile will describe a member's own work. Membership will not be a qualification or an endorsement by the society.
Data statement
This statement covers the list kept through the stay-informed page. It will be extended when membership opens.
- What we keep
- Your name, your email address, and your affiliation if you give one. We also record the date you signed up and which version of this statement you agreed to. We do not record your IP address.
- Why
- To tell you when membership and the directory open, and to send society news a few times a year at most. We use your details with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Who sees it
- Only the founders of the society and the person who maintains this site. Your details are not shared, sold, or published, and they are not added to the register. Joining the register is a separate application.
- Where
- The sign-up list is intended to be stored on a server in Germany. We will confirm the hosting details before the sign-up form goes live.
- How long
- We will delete the stay-informed list 12 months after membership opens, unless you ask us to remove your details sooner. Applying for membership will be separate. Your details will not move to membership records automatically.
- Removal and access
- Write to [email protected] to see, correct, or remove your details. We act on removal requests within a month. You may also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
- Cookies
- None. The site uses no trackers or analytics. It remembers your choice of light or dark theme in your own browser, and that choice never leaves it.
